Die Achenseebahn fährt ins Karwendelgebirge zum Achensee

The Achenseebahn is the oldest cog railway of the world, exclusively with steam powered. It´s driving since 1889! The starting point is the railway station in Jenbach, at the botto of the Karwendel in the Inn Valley. Whistling locomotives, hissing and steaming valves, pistons pounding and pounding chuffs guarantee an unforgettable steam train experience. From Jenbach can be reached the destination Achensee at a gradient of 16% and a journey time of 45 minutes. The lake Achensee is the largest lake in Tyrol, a direct connection to Achenseeschiffahrt is given.

Achenseebahn: Von Jenbach zum Achensee

120 years Achensee Steam Rack Railway: 1889-2009
The oldest steam-powered railway in Europe had 120th Birthday in 2009. 
In 1888 the concession to operate a railway from Jenbach to Maurach by Emperor Franz Josef I was given. On 8 June 1889 was the first day of regular operation of the Achensee Bahn AG. Since this day, the train runs without interruption from the station in Jenbach to the lake Achensee. Nostalgia, romance and tranquility, these are the attributes that appreciate the more than 100,000 train enthusiasts to "their" Achenseebahn. A real historic railway at the bottom of Karwendel mountains in Jenbach, Tyrol Alps.
